Canadian Commonwealth Games Poster Edinburgh 1986

We sorted out some of our stuff in the garage today. It’s already actually quite organised but now we know where everything is!

My blip shows the poster that the Canadian team gave me at the end of my volunteering with them at the Edinburgh Commonwealth Games in 1986.

I also remember seeing PM Mrs Thatcher arrive at Meadowbank. There was a large anti apartheid protest On the opposite side of London Road there were a tiny knot of true blue supporters. On the BBC tv news that evening they were the only ones in shot!

32 Nations boycotted these games. At one point I wondered if they might actually be cancelled.

Edinburgh is the only city to have hosted the Games twice.
