into the castle. There has been a castle on this site since the twelfth century, although of wooden construction originally, reputedly with oaks from Darnaway forest. The present stone building was started in the fifteenth century as a family home. 
Today the warm weather encouraged the appearance of the Common Darters that breed in the moat and were my reason for visiting.
