Paddling on
I wanted to go to Salts Mill for some less ‘run of the mill’ greeting cards so we decided to walk there today.
We diverted from the canal to walk through the ancient trees of Hirst Woods and then called at High Ground for a coffee.
Continuing on the canal into Saltaire we were surprised to hear the church bells ringing at the Saltaire United Reform Church.
I wanted to take a picture as there was obviously going to be a wedding and they had a vintage double decker bus parked outside, presumably for the guests. I was delighted to see it as it’s 9 years next week since Grace and John were married and they too had a vintage double decker bus.
We decided to wait to see the bride as it was obviously an 11.00am wedding but she was quite late, arriving in a vintage car. (The church clock was actual at five minutes slow too!)
We succeeded in my quest for interesting cards and resisting other attractions in the mill, especially the book hall, we returned via the canal side.
Lots of barges on the move at or near Hirst Locks but the two paddle boarders were a bit more unusual. I have seen them before here but not often. We spoke to the second boarder, who was a bit further behind, and he was saying they had to carry everything around the locks including their camping gear which was all bagged up on their boards. Real eco tourism.
A pleasant walk, warm and sunny with a bit of breeze.
