Dwarf Cornel

Went up Carn a' Chuillin, just south of fort Augustus, with C today. An unimposing little hill surrounded by wind farms, but with good views. Unfortunately it was rather dull so the the views did not transfer to the camera well, but we did see a ring ouzel and this floral display. It's a dwarf cornel, about a centimetre across,  and the flowers are actually the small purple bits in the middle, the elegant starched collar with the pink tips are the bracts, not the petals of the flower.  The extra is a fruiting cloudberry. These are quite common in Scotland, you often see the leaves and sometimes the flowers but I have only rarely seen the fruit.
This seems to be a bumper year though, I've seen the fruit three times,
above Loch Skeen, in the Moffat Hills, on Beinn Tharsuinn near Alness (see blip for 7th July) and now on Carn a' Chuilinn.
