The Parable of the Wise and the Foolish Barnacles

The wise barnacle larvae settled and grew on a large rock. The rain came down, the waves crashed, and the winds blew, and beat on those barnacles; and they held fast for they were founded on the rock. The foolish larvae settled on a pebble. The rain came down, the waves crashed, and the winds blew, and beat on those barnacles; and they were cast onto a beach and torn from their pebble-and great was their fall.
