The Great Polish Map of Scotland
On our way home from Cringletie House after a delicious breakfast we stopped off after a few miles to visit The Great Polish Map of Scotland.
It is the world’s largest 3D model of a nation and it has a very interesting history. It was commissioned by Jan Tomasik , one of about 17000 troops who arrived in Scotland in 1940, and he stayed and married like many of his countrymen. He became a successful hotelier and eventually bought Barony Castle ( 2nd extra) where he enlisted a talented cartographer also from Krakow to design the map and it was built between 1975 and 1979.
The county of Fife where I live is the part on the East coast of the map where the ducks are sitting with a shape very like a dog’s head.
Before we left Cringletie this morning we took more photos and the 3rd extra shows just one of them - a photo taken by D of Mrs AMK and myself.
