Cricket lovely cricket

Jamie and Caroline came to lunch. I made a pretty salad to start, with cherries and rose petals, V made a Rachel Roddy loin of pork with borlotti beans and then home made ice-cream, the raw blackcurrant one and a new Diana Henry strawberry and buttermilk which was extraordinarily delicious.

We went to see the Author’s 11, J&C’s friend Tom Holland play cricket at Broadhappeny Down, where cricket first started.  It was hot and we sat in the stand and chatted, a bit to Tom when he was batting after tea.

Biggest highlight (seriously) was an altercation with a tea lady when we meekly asked if we could have a cup of tea after the cricketers had had theirs.  She put me right in my place ‘ and who are you?’ But Caroline doubled back and charmed her.

Dropped them back at the station before going home to do the inevitable round of feeding and watering the hungry pots. There are some quite large plants and trees showing heat strain and dropping leaves. I am spot watering them anticipating a hosepipe ban.
