Dent du Midi summit (TDM day 2)
Back blip
After looking at this mountain (and taking many photos of it) since we moved her in 1994, we finally made it to the summit this morning. The Haute Cime summit is 3257 mètres.
After an early breakfast we set off at 7 and were on the summit by 10.30. A bucket list trip now ticked off. Although it was a hot day, there was a breeze which definitely helped as it was steep and unrelenting. The views from the top were amazing and we could easily see the snow covered dome of Mont Blanc. (See extras) At one point 10 Griffin Vultures flew below us and glided down the valley.
After the summit, we returned to the col and walked down to the Salanfe hut next to the lake. On the way we had a dip in the steam to cool down. It was a long day as we only reached the hut at 4.
We are now getting to know the other people who are doing the same tour as us as we are staying in the same huts each evening and regularly pass each other in the day. The sunset this evening was stunning over the Dent du Midi.
Today was 1155 mètres of ascent and 1235 mètres of descent. I will certainly sleep tonight!
