Requiem for my nasturtiums
No, I’ve not gone crazy - not yet; the title (you have to think of one) refers to the lack of nasturtiums, and indeed of sweet peas, in my own garden back home this year. The disruption of putting in the patio seemed to affect more than the actual week of building work, and none of my intentions bore fruit (or flowers). These beauties are in the Botanics in Edinburgh, where there are massive travaux taking place that put mine well in their place.
We’ve missed our visits there, and it was good to have some time in this still warm but not unusually so afternoon, but the highlight of our day was our dinner in Rishi’s, the Indian restaurant that has replaced a favourite Italian restaurant near the harbour. There was no sign, I’m happy to say, of our wannabe PM, but attentive and friendly service, several Indian families eating together, and great South Indian cooking. We left amid a shower of goodbyes and had a quick walk along the breakwater to see the sun set. It’s cooler now - I needed a cardi when we went out.
Incidentally, I ate Railway Lamb with pilau rice and a plain naan. And no, it didn’t involve the crossrail take on roadkill…
