Galway

We drove to Galway today, where the International Arts Festival is underway.  This is "Flare" by John Gerrard. According to the festival brochure it "centres on a simulated generative form which hovers between a gas flare and national flag. This data object is set within a seascape based on photographs taken by activist and artist Uili Lousi of his heating ancestral ocean near Tonga."

Flare is positioned in the Galway docks, near to collections of objects and scrap as well as yachts and modern buildings, stimulating debate on  the old "what is art" conundrum.

Sadly, we have to curtail our holiday and return home three days early, as my 95 year old Dad has tested positive for Covid. Ireland has been delightful and we will be back soon.
