cool

I didn’t want the heat to stop me from going out in the hills, so I decided to get up and out early, before the mercury rose too high. My planned destination was Scales Tarn.

On the way, I soaked my hat in a stream which really helped to keep my head cool. By 8am it was already 26 degrees, forecast to be 31 by mid morning, but as I climbed higher, there was a nice breeze. I sat at the Tarn, and this wee boy ran down the path from Blencathra and into a tent behind me, then out again and into the tarn. His Dad and sister followed soon after and we had a chat.

I realised I wasn’t ready to go back to the house so continued up past the Tarn to the summit of Blencathra and then onto the top of Bannerdale Crags, moving slowly all the time and drinking plenty of water. The heat reminded me of our Camino walking.

I was back for lunch and then we sat with all the curtains closed and watched the second half of the very silly Persuasion before going to sit under a sunshade outside the pub with a cold drink.

Sarah is almost back to her usual self (minus a few toenails).
