The tank

My intention was to post a full moon picture but it is abit touch and go with the clouds. So as a back stop I quickly whizzed out (<10mins) to Farington Moss for a sunset picture of the 'Tank'. It is a gateway feature to Leyland and a tribute to the blokes that built them in the town. It is a Centurion tank which was for many years the main battle tank of the British Army and sold to other 'friendly' states. Introduced in late WWII they saw active service in Korea, Vietnam, Six days war, Yom Kippur War, and 1st Gulf War. The blokes that built them at the Spurrier works in Leyland used to call them the 'fingerless' phantoms as their assembly was notorious for removing fingers. One worker is said to have joked that they claimed a handful every week. They only assemble trucks in Leyland now.
