Sunday 10th

After our breakfast we planned a walk of about half hour to visit the Shoes on the Danube Bank.  But first we visited the Jewish Synagogue, the largest in Europe and 2nd in the world.  We had a fantastic guide who was both interesting and humorous in the right places. Extra collage of the synagogue including the memorial of a weeping willow and the leaves have the names and tattoo numbers of those who died near the synagogue.

We continued our walk down to the river bank and found the shoe memorial to those who were lined up on the bank, told to remove their shoes (they were valuable) before being shot into the water.  We sat and reflected for a while.

It was incredibly breezy, not cold but pretty windy. Strong enough to blow over some planters when we stopped for coffee and cake. Is Budapest a Windy City? I don’t know . Maybe it funnels down the river or maybe it just happened to be a bit blowy whilst we were there.

On our way back we found the ruin bars.  More quirkiness.
