The Pea Green House
This is another house in our neighborhood that is being rebuilt, and another house that we couldn't see at all before the fire because it was completely surrounded by shrubbery. We knew it was there only because they had a pool and we could often hear kids playing in it. Now I am looking at it as I write. There is an interesting light show of changing colored lights in those three windows at night which led me to think it might be occupied but I think it is just lights on a timer.
I like this house and would have a folded metal roof like it has if it if were not prohibitively expensive to retrofit it. It has an interesting design and looks like a reasonable size. I'm even getting used to the color although I admit I thought it was a primer coat at first. I think this is the back of the house, but it's hard to tell. From what I can see of it, it is very fire conscious, with the metal roof with enclosed vents on it (so embers don't get sucked into the house or the attic space) and cement board siding. It seems to be stalled at this point as many things are.
It must be really frustrating to be rebuilding right now with inflation and the prices of everything going up and supply chain issues making some building materials scarce. The fortress house on the top of the rocks has stalled, possibly due to a shortage of roof trusses and the house on the other side is completely finished on the outside, including a new coat of grey paint. It's hard to tell what is happening on the inside because, well, it's inside....
The exception to the rebuilding effort is the bunker house right above us. This house is the one that has been under construction since we moved here and has stood untouched for years at various stages of its construction. It was nothing but a foundation which escaped the fire. They dropped two prefab units onto it after the fire and have been adding bits to it ever since. It seems to be finished now, including a 'for sale' sign in front of it, but there is still junk in the garage and the only 'landscaping' seems to be more piles of rejected wood and empty cement bags and beer cans. Still a total mystery....
Just as I thought all the pieces of fabric I ordered on my last shopping spree had arrived, another one that I had forgotten came today. It looks quite a lot like the flower arrangement Dana brought over in the Delft vase. Knowing Dana, she probably figured that out! I think it will be perfect bright flame colors, but I will have to rearrange what I have already done to accommodate it.
Keeps my brain occupied....
