Nicky and her Nikon

A welcome visitor

My day did not start too well, as I walked into a glass door! I felt such a numpty for doing so, I think I must have been half asleep as I thought the door was open. I smacked my forehead very hard against the glass, I literally did see stars and it took me a while to realise what had happened - so I imagine I will get a bruise there.

It was another hot day today, although it was partly cloudy and so it looked like it was cooler than yesterday but in reality it was just as hot. I took Xena to the woods with the large pond today, not that she swims but she will stand in the water and cool off. I met a couple who were trying to photograph dragonflies at the pond and they remarked how well behaved Xena was compared to all the other dogs - its just because she doesn't swim whereas all the other dogs were diving into the pond disturbing their hunt for dragonflies.

When I got home I looked out the study window and was delighted to see this Great Spotted Woodpecker on the feeder. Its the first time I have seen a woodpecker around here, I always hear them but never see them. It is not a clear photo as it was taken through double glazed windows and there was much foliage in the way, but I am glad to get a record shot of this visitor. We often get Green Woodpeckers on our lawn, as they love to dig into the grass and eat ants.

I finished watching The Midwich Cuckoos on Sky TV, it was very good and a bit scary at times too, such creepy children it could put you off ever having any children!
