Hitting the max!
Wow, what a run I had this morning with my running buddy. I could tell it was serious because after an initial chat during the first mile, we put the hammers on and hardly talked for the rest of the way. We smashed just short of 4 minutes off our normal time for our normal Thursday course and we ran at an average pace of 8'21" per mile. That is the best thing about running with other people, they really push you on. I have no doubt that if I had been running by myself, I would have been running round about the 9'00" per mile. Seems that the Tiger and I are a perfect team as he paces the flats, undulations and descents whereas I seem to pace the hills.
We decided to do a wee hill sprint right up the hill after the loch and my heart rate hit 167 BPM. I think that this is pretty much near my maximum heart rate as I was seeing stars when I got to the top. If this is correct then I am about 10 BPM out from my previous estimation. Was reading a bit about HR zones last night in a book and it gave you a test to work out your Max H/R properly either running outside or on a treadmill. Going to give it a go.
Wee savings boost of 2 bucks today as I cycled up to meet my running buddy then home for breakfast and headed back out on the bike to get to the coalface. Cycling to the gym was an experiment to see if it made any difference to my legs............jury still out. Went quite slow and it worked out as 12 miles there and back. Gave my Ridgeback a wee run out as Miranda was still sleeping and the Xcross bike doesn't really do slow pace that well.
