Precarious
We walked down to the bridge over the creek this morning to see if there is any water in it. There's still a trickle, but it's very low for this early in the summer. It's also pretty clogged with debris from the October floods that still hasn't been cleared. Bruce and Cindy finally gave up on finding someone to take responsibility for clearing the huge log jam that almost caused their house to be flooded after the fires damaged both the house and many trees and houses further up the mountain. We talked with strongman Gustavo, who has done many really difficult jobs in our garden, and is now tackling this. They've made quite a lot of progress.* Gustavo says another week to go. At least it's won't be a threat to their house (if and when we have another heavy rain) but I suspect there are probably many more fallen trees, telephone poles and burned debris from houses that all burned in the fire.
My photo is the street view of the house being built next door. It gives a much better idea of how it is perched on top of a pile of rocks and why the concrete foundations are so extensive. It certainly fits the challenge of 'square' on several levels....
It's been quite hot outside this afternoon...I think the thermometer read 95F at some point...so it's been an afternoon of napping (John) and doing a bit of work on the latest quilt. It is sort of on pause while I wait for fabric I ordered online to appear. I get a different message every day about when that might be.
Dana came by with some little presents from Jim's suitcase which has been AWOL since they returned from Madrid over two weeks ago. He had given it up for lost, but it was finally delivered this morning. Good thing it didn't contain any fresh food. We gave her a bag of potatoes from our garden in return....
