Hello
We visited the Australian Age of Dinosaurs Museum which is home to the largest collection of Australian dinosaur fossils in the world. The tour was divided into 4 parts including the specimen room, collection room, March of the titanosaurs exhibition and canyon walk. The facility is a new purpose built facility built on the top of a mesa. We needed transport between some of the exhibitions as it was so large. Well worth a trip if you are interested in dinosaurs, fossils, amazing landscapes and rocks. There were native plants including erimophila and ghost gums. The surrounding plains are lush and green which is unusual being a semi desert climate here.
The Australian folk song Waltzing Matilda was penned here in Winton by AB Paterson. Some of the fossils are called Matilda and Banjo along with the local’s names who are involved in the establishment of the facility like Judy and Ann. We haven’t had time to follow up in the other history, will leave that for another visit.
