Through the Glass

Butterflies seem to be few and far between in the garden today, but unexpectedly I discoveded this ringlet trapped between the glass of the patio sliding doors. I thought it looked strangely out of context with its ghostly, pale shadow. Looking through the glass made me think of the draws and boxes of pinned specimens with neatly hand-wriiten labels, that once seemed all to common. Fortunately, this one was very much alive  and was soon set free to fly away and enjoy the sunshine.
