Ospizio Bernina to Alp Grüm
My knees are starting to remind me of the facts that a) I am no longer 30 (or 40, or even 50), and b) I weigh more than I did once. So I decided on an easier walk today, took the train to Ospizio Bernina and walked via the (almost empty) Lago Bianco reservoir, the viewpoint of Sassal Masone with its ancient, round stone huts, to Alp Grüm - another station on the Bernina railway, and one with great views of the Palü glacier and the Puschlav valley.
It was a lovely walk, but windy up there, so I didn’t make many stops on the way, until I sat on the sheltered terrace of the Alp Grüm restaurant for a light lunch.
The train journey back put me off using Swiss public transport, though. It was very crowded, nobody except for me was wearing a mask, and many people in my compartment were blowing their noses or sneezing a lot.
Then the German woman sitting opposite me sneezed right in my face - not in her elbow, not in a hanky, just full spray ahead. Her husband was a bit shocked at that and offered her a hanky. She took it, and told him she was feeling really cold and had just started to shiver.
I feel like this could be the ultimate test for my FFP2 mask, and will avoid longer bus or train journeys from now on.
