I dunno...this was very much a 'transition day' in our Italian holiday - moving from the vibrant Bologna to the tranquil Tuscan countryside for the next four nights. So, what do I go for exactly?
I've gone for the former, Bologna pretty much blew me away, just great, and my two teenage daughters really liked it as well which is great as well - in fact, that's my youngest girl's sleeve at the right of the frame, I promised her I wouldn't show her on social media but she really can't gripe about just a sleeve, can she?
So, a cracking breakfast out at a pavement cafe under the portici when we checked out the apartment ( pistachio cream filled croissant was a first for me, oh hello!) and then a bit of a saunter up to the central station area to pick up the hire car, a couple of hours later we're ensconsced in an apartment within an old house just a few kilometres outside Siena - extra shows the view from the kitchen window, very pretty indeed - and all is well with the world.
A trip to the local supermarket for essentials, swim in the pool, some alfresco food and drink, a bit of backgammon, Tour De France catch-up to come. Blimey, who needs Bologna for excitement?
