Bird's eye view
On our way home now, second last pit stop - Le Mans. I knew we were heading for Le Mans, but it didn't register with me that, that was the Circuit Automobile. I was busy doing the navigation and thought everything was good until we tried to find our way into the street where we were overnighting at yet another Ibis Hotel; there was one no - entry sign after another. We eventually decided just to ignore them and drove to what was the entrance to the car park, but there was an enormous gate barring our entry. J got out of the car and approached a man standing on the other side of the gate. He just happened to be the race director for the Le Mans 24 hour endurance race. Because we could prove we had a reservation at the hotel he was able to allow us in to the car park . J was absolutely delighted when he told us to park the car and after registering to come up onto the flat roof so that we could have a clear view of the end of the long straight of the Circuit de la Sarthe. The noise was unbelievable. The official chatted away to us and invited J to join in a tour of the track in his car on the coming Thursday. He was so disappointed to say that unfortunately, we were heading to Rotterdam for the car ferry home. Our son, who is a great car racing enthusiast couldn't believe where we were when I sent him the video of what was happening. The hotel bedrooms were also quite amusing, set out like a race track. After dinner we went back up on to the roof to watch the sunset.
