Commando Memorial Spean Bridge

Not the way home we had planned for.  We came to a sudden halt behind traffic just at Slochd Summit.  I could see lots of black smoke not that far ahead of us.  It looked bad.  We were fortunate to be at a part of the road that had an entrance on to the other carriageway so headed back north to turn off at the Fort Augustus turnoff.  As we were driving along there were many police cars, fire brigade, ambulances and the air ambulance tearing along where we had just come from.  It was a bad one.

Stopped off at Fort Augustus for the most delicious bowl of soup.  Had a wander.  It was busy.  Lots of American tourists.

Next stop on our giant detour was the Commando Memorial at Spean Bridge.  The most amazing home for this monument overlooking Ben Nevis and Aonach Mor.

Joined the A9 at Dalwhinnie.  Home just after 6 after leaving the B and B at 10:15.

We made it home.  There were Three people that  left home today never to return.  So sad.
