The Jens Jensen Road...

...often called the most unique road in Wisconsin & one of the most photographed. It's believed to have been designed by Jens Jensen, a famous Danish landscape architect who opened a school of architecture in Door County. He believed nature should inspire people, and his idea with the road was to slow drivers down and make them take in their beautiful surroundings. The road is also very hilly, so my brother stood lookout on the top of the hill behind me in case any cars were coming from that direction while I stood in the middle of the road to take this. 
I've also put 4 photos in the extras. The first is the ferry we took out to Washington Island & shows the cars loaded onto the bottom of the ferry as we pulled away from the dock for the 30 minute ride. The second photo is of one of the other ferries coming back to port. My brother worked in the shipyards before he retired, and the Madonna was one of the ships he helped build. Once there we hiked the Heritage Nature Trail and we stopped at Schoolhouse Beach on the Northern-most part of the Island. It got it's name by being the site of the first log schoolhouse on the Island (in 1850). It's one of only 5 beaches in the world with perfectly smooth stones on the beach & no sand. I had to include a couple of photos of the beach, because the signage about the rocks was WAY over the top! Everywhere you looked, signs announced that there was a $250 fine for removing any of the rocks from the beach......that's $250.00 PER ROCK if you're caught taking them!! Even as you drive out of Schoolhouse Beach, there's a sign that says: "Taking Rocks? Please leave them. They belong on the beach", and 10 feet later there's a big wooden box with a sign that says "Rock Return". We couldn't stop laughing, as there are literally millions of rocks on the beach.....I can't imagine it would make much difference if a few got taken home, though obviously the DNR feels differently. There were kids picking up & throwing rocks into the water, and my brother jokingly wondered if we should notify someone, as technically that constituted "removing" rocks from the beach. Lol.
