Sunflowers
Last night's function was thankfully not too late, we were home just after 10pm. It was the annual summer party of Gavin's office held in a very trendy restaurant in Eccleston Yards, the type that is all concrete and exposed metal pipes - not so great for conversation as there is not much to absorb the noise, so you end up nodding and smiling and not really sure what the person in front of you is saying! Also it was drinks and substantial canapes that are never that substantial, but the champagne did flow freely all evening.
Today I did some grocery shopping and other chores around the house. Today and tomorrow is the governors' visitation to the (boy's old) school and as chairman of governors Gavin is responsible for all the speeches. He has been at school since after lunch for all sorts of award ceremonies for the pupils, I am joining him later for the music scholars leaving concert which is then followed by presentations for those teachers of significant years at the school who are retiring/leaving, and then finally a dinner. So last night and this morning Gavin was going over all his speeches and trying to find an appropriate grace for the dinner. Tradition requires that the governors and partners are meant to stay tonight in a local hotel (which is rather basic), but I have decided to rather come home as I have Xena as my excuse! The activities continue tomorrow so it means I have an early start to get there in time for the final chapel service.
My niece and new baby daughter are doing well, and today she revealed her name - Hailow Grace, which is very unusual and is growing on me, I rather like it now.
These sunflowers are in a vase in the house and I took them outside to photograph in the sunlight.
There is a report that Covid cases are going up. Funny how the significant increase in cancer cases has not been mentioned - due to the lack of screening during the pandemic the number of cancer cases is at a very high level.
