Sant Jordi, el dìa mes felíç!
Today is Sant Jordi's day, a really happy day in Catalonia and here is C, a student of mine, selling roses from her mother's flower shop.
The tradition on this day is that women buy books for men and men buy roses for women, though nowadays it's usually a rose and a book.
Sant Jordi (Saint George) is the patron saint of Catalonia and the legend is that he saved a damsel from the claws of a dragon and from the dragon's blood grew a rose bush. Sant Jordi picked a rose for the princess as a sign of his love for her and then galloped off on his white horse again (to save more damsels, I suppose)
It's also known as Día del Libro (Book Day) and I believe it's celebrated in many places.
