Practical Adult Education
Today was the turn of five of the women from our Co-operative model farm in Doroba ( Taweni farm group), to come to the Lusangazi Farm for training in budding and grafting. They will stay at the hostel on the farm tonight and return home tomorrow evening.
It was really a workshop or a training day or maybe even a bigger word in places!! Robert our manager opened with an hour of theory, Benidicto took them on a tour of the citrus grove, to pick out suitable scions and bring back to the shed for operation!!
Wessie and Benidicto then taught the skills mainly by holding hands and really being amazing teachers.
All in all we were bowled over by the professionalism and attention to detail displayed by the guys on the farm and the welcome afforded to everyone who came.
Harisen stole the show by donating two of his chickens to the gathering. Chrissie did the deed killing, plucking washing, cleaning-out and then cooking. What a woman? She cooked a tonne of Nsima, lep and tomato.
Robert is planning to include practical work for secondary school students in agriculture. At the moment he takes four students on Saturdays. What an amazing service.
