Here there and everywhere

Peñiscola

We're here for an overnight stay because of a bit of confusion between two blippers and a potential blip meet! It's a long story....

Happy to be here though and lovely change of scene and sea air! We arrived just before midday and the drive took less time than we'd thought - about 2 hours. We checked into our little hotel and walked out to explore the place that we first came to 30 years ago and is the only place we've ever asked for and proceeded with 'el libro de reclamaciones' - the dreaded complaints book!

Lovely to be by the sea! We walked along the front and then had a delicious lunch of mussels and fideua with alioli, on the terrace of the restaurant of our own hotel. We were lucky to get a table as it's a favourite of the locals.  A siesta followed. We could get used to this!

Another explore and into the old town. Cobbled streets, lots of restaurants and some with pretty amazing sea views. Lots of little shops and so much cheaper than Barcelona!  It was all a bit busy for us though and so we headed back to the front, wandered around the stalls selling clothes, arts and crafts and are now having a glass of wine on the terrace of Bayarri before bed. There's a definite holiday atmosphere, mainly Spanish with a few French and Italians. It's funny seeing people in their new holiday clothes - bright shirts, new sandals and dressed up for a Saturday night. I made a little purchase myself - a fuschia pink linen jacket in a shop cakes la gallineta (noted for our own records).

We both commented that Peñiscola has a bit of a Brazilian vibe!
