Northern Territory

The collage shows the change in scenery driving into Darwin. Bob hasn’t been up here before and I have been once for a work conference. 

The first is a typical termite mound that dot the landscape. These seem to provide a hospitable environment for termites away from the heat and wet weather in the wet season. There is a different type of termite that build up high in the tree and eat out the middle of the branch, this is how a didgeridoo is created. 
Top right is a mango orchard. Below it is a new highway they are building across to Kakadu (Arnhem Highway). It is a raised roadway for about 10-15 kilometres…this area is under a metre of water in the wet season.

Below is the Darwin Harbour and Houses of Parliament. A sight for sore eyes after all the red and dust of the desert. 

We bought some fish and chips for lunch then went shopping. My swimmers were in a sorry state of repair, I’ve had them so long they are worn out. My cool climate clothes aren’t suitable up here so I also bought some shorts and a flowing caftan thing to wear over my swimmers. Then we went for another splash in the park pool.
