Skinari
We were off at 8am this morning with our friends for a cave swim in a wonderful location. We had to get there early before the boats came in with tourists to visit the Blue Caves. Unfortunately though we never made it to the caves because as we started swimming we noticed lots of jelly fish in the water. Mr M and one of our friends were stung, so we headed back and got out.
We had a lovely breakfast at the taverna with amazing views, but it didn’t quite make up for missing the caves.
We went back to the villa for lunch and a session of teaching me to dive in the pool, which needs a bit more work!
In the late afternoon we went to our local beach again, but sadly there were more jelly fish and Mr M got stung for a second time.
We’re not really sure why they’ve suddenly appeared, because they weren’t here earlier in the week. Tomorrow we’re going to have to try a different part of the island and hope that there are none there.
In the evening we went out to a taverna with our friends. It’s a real typical Greek place where the locals go and has a very eccentric owner. We went there before three years ago and he was exactly the same. There’s no menu or prices but he goes to each table and tells you every dish on offer and describes how it’s made. It’s a real experience. He’s also an olive farmer and he gave us a big bottle of extra virgin olive oil as a gift when we left. He’s such a genuine character.
