Monflanquin A Bastide
Monflanquin was founded in 1256, it's a town called a Bastide which under the rules of that time means it could not be fortified. The town became an asset to the region of Agenais during the Hundred Years' War. In 1279 it was handed over to the English but after many conquests Monflanquin passed from the English to the French.
It is set on a hill overlooking the surrounding countryside, and we can only imagine how busy it is when the tourist season begins. The picture above shows a photo of that shop front years ago, this is replicated on a number of empty shop fronts, keeping the area fresh looking. It is a beautiful place and as usual our wifi spot is a hive of activity - a small hotel offering lunch, we may stay and see what is on the menu.
We are heading for the Pyrenees albeit slowly. This area south of Bergerac is beautiful with row upon row of flowering apple trees, large rolling fields ploughed ready for? Last night we camped on a duck farm, a big business, the farmer happy and helpful and where we bough several tins of cassoulet.
