Summer solstice

It was a perfect summer’s day. A great one for all those who congregated at Stonehenge for the first time in two years to witness the sun rising through the centre of this ancient rock clock!

The railways ground to a halt today as the first major strike action gripped the country for 30 years.

Trains, however, were still running on the heritage line through our village. Their familiar whistles waffled through the summer heat. Sadly the scenic route from Cheltenham Racecourse to Broadway is for the leisured and of no serious use to the commuters.

We spent most of the day in the garden. I cut the lawn before it got too hot. I also expected a long delayed delivery of an office desk. Despite telephone confirmation that it would definitely be delivered today it failed to appear!
