Wildflowers

For pretty much the first time in three months, I do not have to spend my Sunday afternoon down at the Bryce Institute. And with the added bonus of a dry and warm - if somewhat overcast - day, Mrs C and I decided to walk into town for a coffee and a bite to eat.
Sadly, Kendal is like a giant construction site at the moment. Pavements being ripped up everywhere to lay new fibre optic cables for BT, a new gas main going in along Aynam Road, and - of course - the ongoing flood defence works which continue to decimate the flora and fauna along the river. There seems to be no rhyme or reason as to the order in which these works are being done, meaning that it is no longer possible to enjoy a walk alongside the river for any more than a few dozen metres before being diverted around various half finished concrete edifices. I believe there was some vague promise that the work would all be done by Summer 2022, but I think it’s going to have to be a fairly liberal interpretation of the word “summer” if that promise is to be fulfilled.
So it was a pleasant surprise to come across this small area which had been “wilded” by the Town Council to attract bees. Not only did it look wonderful but the number of bees buzzing around would suggest that it’s primary purpose had been achieved. Nice to see something positive in amongst the carnage.
