Barbara Hepworth
We squeezed in the Barbara Hepworth exhibition before we left Edinburgh - what an amazing survey of her life and work! I knew she had a son but didn’t know she then had triplets. She and the babies were offered a place of safety in St Ives at the beginning of WW2 and she never left St Ives after that. One of her quotes that struck me was how she squeezed in her work with 4 small children in a small cottage during the war - 30 minutes of sculpting, 30 minutes of cooking, 30 minutes of sculpting, 50 minutes of child minding, 30 minutes of sculpting, 30 minutes of cleaning, etc., with her subconscious working on creative challenges all the time - what commitment!
Apologies that I won’t have much time for commenting over the next week, but I will still be seeing with great interest what you are all up to!
