The Lozarithm Lens

Lacock Abbey NT (Friday 17th June 2022)

Despite the heat I needed to go to the shops, so I first headed for Lacock Abbey, correctly supposing that it would be quiet compared to the weekend and that woodland shade would help keep me cool. As my Lumix LX-100 was off for its 2,000 images service I took two other cameras, one with a Sigma 17-70 APS-C lens and the other with a Pentax 55-300mm lens with its 1.4 extender still attached, in place of my Nikon P900 super-zoom. I ended up only using the 55-300 but as only one of the shots exceeded 300mm it turned out I didn't really need the extender.

The rose garden where I took this was open, which hadn't previously been the case, and empty and it was so hot that the squirrels lacked the energy to run away (see Extras). I also had the Botanic Gardens completely to myself for most of my time there.

I spent some time looking for the cat Abbess (or Smokey), or any cat, as it seemed to be exactly the favoured conditions for felines, but of course cats are perverse and there was no sign of them. I was worried something might have happened to the Abbess, not knowing how old she was, as I hadn't seen her since 2019, and I enquired after her to the manager when I left. He told me she was alive and well, living in the village being fed treats daily by Lacock residents, and confirmed that her true name, given by her owners, is Gracie.

With thanks to BikerBear for Flower Friday.
