Pensaernïaeth helaeth cerddoriaeth ~ Spacious architecture of music

“The building appeared to be a school and the children were chanting a Welch psalm. I never heard sounds that charmed me as these did. Never did music give me such pleasure before. I regretted the moment when they ceased to vibrate and left us to sink down into common life again.”
—Michael Faraday, 1819

Heddiw, aethon ni i gyngerdd yn y Coleg Brenhinol Cerdd a Drama Cymru(*). Cawsom ni ein gwahoddiad gan ffrind sy wedi bod astudio yno (ar ôl ein hargymhelliad). Roedd cyngerdd o ddarnau wedi cyfansoddi gan y myfyrwyr fel rhan o'u blwyddyn olaf.

Gwnaethon ni mwynhau cerdded trwy'r parc ac yn cael picnic cyn mynd i'r neuadd gyngerdd.  Roeddwn yn aml wedi pasio'r adeilad ar fy ffordd i'r gwaith felly roedd yn dda gweld y tu mewn. Roedd yr adeilad yn helaeth ac yn groesawgar. Gwnaethon ni cwrdd â ffrindiau yno ac yn cael diodydd yn y bar cyn y cyngerdd.

Roedd y cyngerdd yn brofiad bendigedig. Roedd e'n cyfareddol i glywed i wrando ar gerddoriaeth nad oedd wedi'i pherfformio'n gyhoeddus o'r blaen. Roedd gen i synnwyr o beidio â gwybod i ble gallai'r gerddoriaeth fynd. Gallai fod o blaned arall, estron. Roedd y gerddoriaeth yn cymysgu agweddau ar jazz a chlasurol. Cefais sylw i gyd wrth i'r gerddoriaeth symud. Roedd yn brofiad fel petai gerddoriaeth yn bensaernïaeth a chanddi ei dimensiynau ei hun. Efallai bod cerddoriaeth bob amser fel hyn, ac roedd e'n clywed cerddoriaeth newydd yn cynyddu'r effaith.

Rydw i'n gobeithio byddan ni'n cael cyfle i glywed i fwy o gyngherddau eleni.

Today we went to a concert at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama(*). We were invited by a friend who has been studying there (after our recommendation). It was a concert of pieces composed by the students as part of their final year.

We enjoyed walking through the park and having a picnic before heading to the concert hall. I had often passed the building on my way to work so it was good to see inside. The building was spacious and welcoming. We met friends there and had drinks at the bar before the concert.

The concert was a wonderful experience. It was fascinating to hear music that hadn't been performed in public before. I had a sense of not knowing where the music could go. It could be from another, planet, alien. The music mixed aspects of jazz and classical. I was all attention as the music moved. It was an experience as if music was an architecture with its own dimensions. Maybe music was always like this, and hearing new music heightened the effect.

I hope we get the opportunity to hear more concerts this year.
