Billingborough spring wells
... and Sempringham holy well (extra)
After cleaning up and a chat with the neighbours I had a long drive back. To avoid the hold ups at Sutton Bridge I took a detour and the opportunity for a holy well bonanza. Although it took me out of the way, the rest of the journey was clear and it meant I was late enough to miss all the Appleby horse fair traffic.
Sempringham is a fascinating spot ... site of the Gilbertine monastic order ...all the info is here ... https://www.britainexpress.com/counties/lincs/churches/sempringham.htm

It was ‘well’ hidden and took some searching out as it was tucked away and sadly felt rather neglected and manky (wouldn’t have dreamt of testing that water).
The main blip is of the neighbouring village springs at Billingborough ... right next to the church and with water bubbling up like a jacuzzi!
p.s. I had a feeling someone had been here from the early holy well days so did a search and there’s better photos of Sempringham on Tickytocky’s blip here ...
