A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Airport

To make life easier (and to drag out our departure) we are spending the night at a hotel near the airport, before our early morning departure. We arrived by train from Spoleto about mid-day and had plenty of time to do SOMETHING. After lunch at the Mall food-court (truly a first for us in Italy) we took a walk along an abandoned road to the airport. On the way we could watch incoming jets overhead and the Leonardo Express train going to/from the airport. The abandoned road ended and we had to navigate busy roads to make our way to the airport. The roads had no sidewalk (of course), nor much shoulder…so it was a bit terrifying…and then we came across a bit of wildlife that parked itself at the bend in the road, taking up all the ‘shoulder room’. Why was a cow, dressed in a red, white and blue sailor suit on the side of the road? (Extra). M says, “When things get surreal, it is time to go home!”
