Iris

A gloomy dull day with the treat of rain all day but it came to naught.

Farmers Market overcrowded and bumpy with everyone walking around with their shoulders hunched against the expected elements and thus not seeing where they are walking. Met up with a cousin and his wife who live on the old family farm. They are presently renovating the heritage farm house due to earthquake proofing requirements. The Chimneys have had to be taken down and when the roof cavity was exposed it was found that some of the rafters closest to the main chimney had almost burnt through from smouldering over the years of use. Luck definitely on the side of the old house. Unfortunately one of the upstairs rooms (which use to be the nursery and had walls papered with pictures cut from magazines of the day - 1930/40's - done by my mother as a child with her mother and aunt) has sustained some serious water damage and cannot be saved in its entirety but will be rebuilt using original plans as guide. As a child I spent hours in that room looking at all the pictures and listening to the stories that went with them. Thank goodness for memories.....

Just had to bring some colour into the day and thus I turned my lens to the vase of iris glowing on the kitchen bench.
