Tewksbury Severn Ham

The best tonic we could have is to get out of the house and explore the water meadows on the flood plains that protect Tewksbury from the waters of the Avon and Severn at their confluence.

The large island, or ham, is a riot of water meadows groaning under the swathes of buttercups and cow parsley. The air is alive with larks, song thrush and swooping swallows. In the distance we heard our first cuckoo of the spring.

Our afternoon walk was in warm sunshine. A marked contrast with the dancing hailstones that peppered our house and garden this morning!
