A day of contrasts

This morning we visited the (huge) Neofit Rilski Historical Park, near Varna, where you travel chronoligically through time from the Neolithic period, to the Tracians, Slavs and up to the present day Bulgaria.

My main blip shows a Thracian archer who stands at the entrance to the park and the extras show fellow traveller Elizabeth (obviously quite taken with a Tracian warrior!) and a replica of a golden wreath of twigs, leaves and acorns which was found inside the tomb of Seuthes III.  He was King of the Odrysian Empire of Thrace from 331 to 300BC.  We actually saw the original wreath in 2014 and will be near the tomb at the end of our tour in the Valley of the Roses so hope we may be able to see it again.
