WITH A SONG IN MY HEART

By lizzie_birkett

Storm damage…

…to my phone! Silly me - call me Calamity Jane.
My phone must have slipped out of my pocket yesterday as I was planting raspberry canes. I didn’t miss it till bedtime and I rang it from Frank’s phone. I couldn’t hear it ring so thought I’d try outside - it was already dark -
bit I heard it ring in the distance. I found it at the end of the garden on the soil. The hailstones have cracked the screen!

It’s been a lovely day today though and mostly spent outdoors. I sowed French beans, turnips, kale and more carrots.
Indoors I sowed tarragon, cucumber and courgette (my others died!) hope it’s not too late for these.
Then we sat in the sun each doing our own thing - Frank drawing, me reading the paper and writing a poem.

I made a gluten free loaf today for the first time.
The man who comes to do our covid tests for the ONS research was telling Frank that a few years ago he was really ill with an auto-immune disease which stopped him in his tracks and he had to end his medical career and sports. He had heard about the effects of gluten and went on a gluten free diet and is now fit and healthy. So Frank wants to give it a try as he suffers from polymyalgia rheumatica which causes him pain and fatigue.
Anyway, I had bought some bread at the supermarket but it was so expensive so I decided to make it myself. It turned out really well (extra) and the good thing was - no kneading!

The swallows are out early in the morning, hence my poem.

Early Wake Up Call

The dawn chorus started
At 04.20 hours
with the swallows
on the overhead wires
outside the bedroom window,
chirping, twittering, whooping.
I was already awake
and thought about getting up
but I lay there, listening to their
conversation, chitter-chatter
until it lulled me back to sleep.

Thanks for the comments, stars and hearts. I may have forgotten to reply to some over the last week.

Goodnight :-) X
