Dreaded Lily Beetle

After a visit to the optician for my six monthly check up, spent the afternoon in the garden, moving pots around. Glad we have a trolley as some are quite large and heavy.
Found three of these dreadful bright red beetles on the lilies.
Belongs to the order Coleoptera and the family Chrysomelidae .
Adult 1/4 - 3/8 inches in length so I thought would make a good blip for Tiny Tuesday with a theme of Fauna.
Photo taken before it was dispatched.
The females can lay up to 450 eggs each season. In batches of about 12 on the underside of leaves. After a week they hatch into reddish- brown maggot-like grubs. They cover themselves in their own wet excrement. Absolutely disgusting.

What a lovely day it has been. Sunny and very warm. Reached the mid 20s.
Rain at night and sun by day. Perfect.

Very sad to learn of the sudden death of Leeds born Kay Mellor. She has written many TV series including Fat Friends, and The Syndicate. but I remember the brilliant Band of Gold. She will be sadly missed.
