Lisbon Roofscape

I suppose living in the country now for the past twenty plus years, the city scene is both fascinating and slightly intimidating. There is so much detail in this shot - one of many such skylines I took over our time in Lisbon. The city is filled with old and empty houses, new builds and ancient monuments. 

Memories of fascism (proper fascism, not the growing threat in Britain, and more recently ousted than many might think) and of earthquakes... a tour guide we overheard said that in Lisbon everyone lives with the continual awareness of earthquakes and aircraft crashes. I'm not sure if there's been an aircraft come down near the city but they do fly over constantly.

On this day we visited the castle Sao Jorge and avoided the droppings from the peacocks perched high in the trees above us. And the occasional plummeting one...
