Wide Wednesday: Greenbank Pool
With the weather looking miserable we headed straight home after dropping Sophie off at school this morning and, to spite the weather, put our winter jumpers, etc away and brought out the summer clothes instead.
The weather picked up this afternoon so we headed out for a walk, dropping off our season ticket applications at the outdoor swimming pool on the way. It reopens on Saturday week for the first time since lockdown and regulars like us can’t wait.
Opened in 1937 and built in Art Deco style, it was paid for with a bequest from Alice Clark, one of the shoemaking family, to provide a “safe” place for local women and children to swim. Previously, locals wanting a swim had to do so in the nearby River Brue, where the men and boys liked to swim naked.
The Greenbank is open to all - as long as you’re wearing a costume!
Thought a bit of vintage treatment suited the style for today’s theme of architecture.
