Nae chance!
A moment of hilarity at the allotment - a pair of magpies were searching around for food (I suspect hatching and hence hungry beaks to feed) and one of them tried its chances at, erm, hovering by the fat ball container.
Earlier, I'd seen a couple of charming little birds accessing the seed - not fast enough to get a photo, but without expert advice my best guess was adolescent chaffinches.
In other news, I planted out the calabrese, not forgetting to lime first and net last, and watered everything. The dead rat had reappeared, presumably dumped on the path by the fox who didn't like where D had chucked it too close to his front door under the hedge. Bloated, but fortunately still intact. Hurled it even further under the hedge and tried blocking it in with lots of dead bay prunings (which smelt a lot nicer than he did).
