The River Clyde

Usually when you talk about the Clyde you tend to think of the industrial Clyde that was once lined with shipyards and was the heart of the radical "Red Clydeside". But there is another Clyde- the rural river from its source to the outskirts of Glasgow.

Today I was in this Clyde Valley that was once the centre of the Scottish tomato growing which supplied delicious fresh tomatoes with a distinct smell for most of the summer months. Now all that remains is a few dilapidated green houses but all is not lost.

It's a lovely drive up the valley from Garrion Bridge to Lanark and all along the route are hotels, restaurants and garden centres and they are thriving even on a wet and windy day.
