WITH A SONG IN MY HEART

Ballet Shoes

Someone forgot theirs so the box of used ones was tipped out to find two that matched. Ballet and tap was good, I think I’m improving…a bit!
Spent the morning writing poems and after lunch we went to Morrison’s.
The extra is my Archeology magazine which I subscribed too early in the year. I’ve always been interested but never joined anything. I watch every programme about it on TV. I would love to take part in a dig somewhere - I don’t know how my knees would like it though!

What Lies Beneath?

For all I know I could be walking
Above treasures from long ago
Maybe ancient pots and jewels
and coins and weapons or tools -
used for trading or fighting

I wonder who went before me
in the places where I’ve lived
who may have dropped a trinket
or buried some gold and think it -
would be safe until their return

And in a few hundred years
will things that belonged to me
Be unearthed in an archeological dig,
be scrutinised and documented in a big -
ledger then displayed for others to see?

And yesterday’s poem about shopping!

I’m (not) a shopper get me outta here!

I know the economy needs a boost
but it won’t be coming from me
I’ve lost the desire and will to shop
I’d rather look at flowers and trees.

We went anyway, hoping for new jeans
and this outlet sounded full of promise
and anyway, it was a rainy day so -
we thought it might bring us some solace.

We stepped into the revolving door
and I wish we’d revolved straight out
but it was too late, already drawn in
my sanity was seriously in doubt.

Women pushing trolleys laden high
men traipsing behind despondent
‘What d’you think of this dress Bill?’
Is a sale, on his opinion dependant?

Mum taught me how to shop for clothes
‘Look at the cut and feel the fabric.’
It hardly seems to matter these days
with one size fits all, plenty of elastic!

Floor upon floor of imported tat
which next week will be in the sale
and where will it all end up after that?
Landfill? Shredded and stacked in bales?

It’s time to put quality before cheapness
I think fashion items produced so fast,
made in factories by underpaid people
should soon be a thing of the past.

Goodnight Friends! :-)X
