Now is the Month of Mayhem

My first ever Jack o' the Green ceremony was not quite as I'd imagined. The green underfoot was tarmac, the twelve fires surrounding Jack were pungent cans of firelighters (extra) and the witches' short messages to the East, the South, the West and the North were stolidly read, not declaimed. Still, I was amused when someone came up to Jack and asked for some keys to be passed out through the greenery to let someone in a wheelchair into the car park and much more engaged when the Loose Women took to the tarmac with their exuberant combination of Morris and can-can with bloomers (see Tivoli's last extra here).

I spent the rest of Mayday in a swirl of music, dancing and costume-admiring. The highlight was Sur les Docks - a French punk folk band who really did have people jumping up and down like the old days.

As an exceptionally inadequate fiddler I also really enjoyed Ian Cutler (of Wicker Man music fame) playing with The Hot Rats.
