Postcard from Edinburgh # 2 Shrubhill House
Hiya folks!
This is a big trip down memory lane for me! This place used to be the Social Work Department Headquarters. I didn't work here all the time but used to come in now and then for meetings. On the 11th September 2001 I came in just after 9 to find everyone gawping at a TV - on the screen were pictures of one of the twin towers in New York belching smoke into a clear blue sky. As we all watched a plane flew into the second tower. It was impossible to look away - the meeting never happened, we all wandered out dazed. There were long corridors on each floor with doors on either side which were usually closed. It always made me think of East Germany and the Stasi. On the top floor the Director had a large office with his own en-suite toilet. He even had his own lift to get to his office from the car park! Lazy bugger! The corridor on the top floor was always quiet and empty. Anyway, it's all closed up now as you can see - and the decorators have been in!!
Chin up!
